Ladies Round 7

Ladies Classic - 7th Round Match Report

Mill Ride GC v Foxhills GC

3rd October 2019

Freya Burns v Sue Eggleton

Closely contested top match with Freya taking the early lead going 2 up after 6. Sue pulled it back with some great golf reducing the deficit to 1 through 11. The 7 Handicapper from Mill Ride came home with the 2&1 victory to give the home team the start they needed.

Fran Freeland v Orla Sweeney

This was a well matched pairing with both on similar handicaps, 17 & 18 respectively. Early indication were that this was going to be a tight game with Fran going 1 up after 6. Orla didn't get into her stride throughout the match and Fran ran out a 4&3 winner with some very steady golf played.

Fran Campbell v Kirstine Mayall

Mill Ride team captain, Fran Campbell, knew how important her match was against Kirstine and this one was nip & tuck in the early stages with the match square after 6 holes. Kirstine battled hard to keep Foxhills hopes alive and nothing could separate the ladies with the match still all square through 11. Captain Marvel had to play some superb golf and finally got the breakthrough on the tough holes 12th & 13th to go 2 up before sealing her teams place at the Grand final in Spain with a 4&3 victory.

Carolyn Carrington v Hilary Stokes

Another close match with both players fighting all the way. They were all square after 6 and Hilary had a great chance to move to 1 up on the tough par 3 11th but unfortunately a 3 putt meant it remained all square. The overall match was done and dusted by the time this match reached the 18th but credit to Carolyn who came back from 2 down after 15 to seal a 1 up victory for Mill Ride with a fantastic putt on the 18th to win her match.

Jane Sly v Daria Bleyz

This was always going to be a close contest with Jane off 5 and Daria off 8. Jane took an early lead going 1 up after 6 with some powerful shots off the tee. Daria put up a brave fight and kept the match going until 17th when Jane managed to close off the match with a 2&1 victory.

A clean sweep for Mill Ride but great to Foxhills for a valiant effort and most matches could have gone either way.

Mill Ride Captain - Fran Campbell

Despite the score line, the match was very tightly fought, with 3 matches finishing on the last 2 holes. It was nip and tuck all the way round with no player gaining significant ground on their opposition until the final few holes.

The course was playing very long having had a huge amount of rain over the last week and was a test for all players.

"We are all absolutely delighted to have reached the semi-finals of this amazing competition given we are such a small ladies section. We only have 17 ladies who are eligible based on handicap and 11 have played over the course of the 7 rounds. We know our course is tough and we had good home advantage, but for the entire team to deliver their point against such formidable opponents as Foxhills was stunning. We are very lucky to have really strong support from the club especially our head Pro Terry Wild who has coached all of us over the years."
