Ladies Classic - 6th  Round Match Report

High Legh Park GC v Glenbervie GC

16th September 2018

The Annodata UK Golf Club Classic Ladies 6th round took place in mixed conditions at the High Legh Park Golf Club in Cheshire. The Glenbervie ladies made the 230 mile trip on Sunday 16th September in the crucial regional final match to decide who was going to the Grand Final in Spain. The High Legh Park ladies where fabulous and made the Glenbervie ladies feel very welcomed.

High Legh Park were in fantastic form as they were away to a very tough Ganton team and came out 3-2 winners. Glenbervie were the last remaining team from Scotland after they beat Duddingston 3-2 in their 5th round so the the whole of Scotland's hopes rested on Glenbervie's shoulders.

Glenbervie Team  -  Fiona Ross, Margaret Tough, Helen Goodwin, team captain (non playing) Lyn Fleming, Elizabeth Goodwin and Jennie Allan.

Both teams played some wonderful golf with birdies and pars from each side. Two games went to 18th, one finished at 17th and the other two a bit earlier. All games were played in tremendous good spirit and a lovely lunch followed the game. We were delighted to have met such lovely ladies.

Match 1
Sara Caldwell (13) V Margaret Tough (6)
Very close encounter between Margaret and Sara with the match going to the final hole and Margaret on for a 1up win.

Match 2
Dawn White (19) V Helen Goodwin (10)
Great golf played here both Helen & Dawn but eventually Helen ran out with a 5&4 victory so Glenbervie took the early spoils to take a 2-0 lead.

Match 3
Sally Mundy (13) V Elizabeth Goodwin(12)
A glimmer of hope for High Legh as Sally played some superb golf to win her match 3&2.

Match 4
Robyn Cotton (12) V Fiona Ross (14)
It was a very tight match – back and forth all the way. Fiona from Glenbervie taking the match on the 17th with a 2&1 win.

Match 5
Debbie Brayzier (12) V Jennifer Allan (2)
The final match ended in a well deserved draw as both ladies played some outstanding golf and it wasn't to be High Legh's day but all the matches were very competitive but played in the true spirit of the game. Both sets of ladies a credit to their clubs.

Final Result - High Legh Park 1.5 - Glenbervie 3.5

"The ladies from High Legh Park were fabulous. Very welcoming and friendly. I do have a team photo of us and one with the host team too if you would like me to send both I will do. The weather was mixed with heavy rain for around 8 holes then it dried up and the sun shone. Both teams played some wonderful golf with birdies and pars from each side. Two games went to 18th, one finished at 17th and the other two a bit earlier. All games were played in tremendous good spirit and a lovely lunch followed the game. We were delighted to have met such lovely ladies."
