The Millbrook Golf Club Win
inaugural Annodata UK Golf Club Classic
20-24th November 2017
Montecastillo Golf Resort, Jerez, Spain
Four Men's teams qualified through tough county and regional matches before making it to the Grand Final – The Millbrook, Ely City, Rowlands Castle & Tytherington completed the line-up.
It was a glorious 4 days basking in the sunshine with temperatures reaching 24 Degrees. The Men's teams had a practise day on Day 1 to get themselves familiar with the testing Montecastillo Golf Course, which hosted the Volvo Masters for 5 consecutive years.
It was Semi-Finals day on Wednesday 22nd November and the line-up was as follows:
SF1 - Ely City GC V Tytherington
SF2 – Rowlands Castle V The Millbrook
Millbrooks opponents in the Semi-Final were Rowlands Castle GC from Hampshire, a closely fought match with some quality golf from both teams with handicaps ranging from +3 to 7. Millbrook won the match with a 3.5 to 1.5 margin of victory.
The other semi-final was between Ely City from Cambridgeshire & Tytherington from Cheshire, a great match played in the right spirit with Ely City winning by the narrowest of margins 3 - 2.
That setup a Men's Grand final between Millbrook & Ely City.
Ely City put up a good fight in matches 2,3 and 5 but Millbrook took the honours in all the matches with Peter Mott sealing the winning putt on the 17th green. A very impressive display of golf from the whole Millbrook team in the Grand Final.
|Duncan Steele||6&5||Ed Webster|

|Fraser Jamieson||2&1||Neil Brosnan|
|Paul Kitching||6&5||Clive Harrison|

Congratulations to The Millbrook Men's Team on a great performance and becoming the National Golf Club Champions for 2017
Captain's Experience - Peter Mott (Millbrook)
It was great to hear that Annodata had decided to sponsor a new Team Match Play Competition to replace the Mail on Sunday Competition in 2017.
The Millbrook Mens team had an amazing run through the knockout rounds, culminating in a really close and hard fought match against Burslem Golf Club in the regional final, with match 5 going to the 22nd hole.
A week in Spain was the prize for this great achievement. And what a week it turned out to be. A great choice of venue, with a fabulous challenging course, great hotel and food and just as important what a great group of teams that had managed to make it through to the finals.
Winning the Mens Final is only just sinking in. A huge thank you to both Rowlands Castle and Ely City for playing the semi final and final matches in the spirit of our great game.
The Matchplay Golf team have done an amazing job in 2017, starting the competition up at short notice culminating in a great event in Spain and were great hosts throughout. We can't believe we have won this amazing competition, overcoming some great teams in the process, We look forward to trying to defend the trophy in 2018.
